ShroomRoom MossMix for natural green terrarium walls

ShroomRoom MossMix is a renewed dry mix of Asian mosses and fern spores for the natural greening of terrariums, paludariums, vivariums, and bottle forests. The mix is intended for decorative use on backdrops, side walls, wood, cork, stone, clay, and other suitable terrarium surfaces.

With ShroomRoom MossMix, you give bare surfaces a more natural, tropical look. Think of a backdrop that slowly turns green, a piece of cork that looks less sterile, or a homemade sculpture that blends in better with the rest of the terrarium. The mix is particularly interesting for enthusiasts who do not want their setup to look ready-made or artificial, but rather want to create a terrarium that gains more character over time.

Updated with more species, more spores, and no sphagnum

This new ShroomRoom MossMix is an improvement over the old composition. The mix contains more species, more spores, and no dead sphagnum moss. That is an important difference. Sphagnum can be coarser and more fibrous, causing a mixture to remain less evenly distributed on vertical surfaces.

Because this MossMix contains no sphagnum, the structure is finer and better suited for use on side walls, back walls, and other vertical surfaces. The mix stays in place better in small irregularities, edges, and structures. This is especially helpful when you want to create a natural-looking vegetated effect on a wall without the material immediately falling down.

For a moss spore terrarium, that fine distribution is important. You don’t want to apply the mix as a thick layer, but rather spread it thinly and evenly. This way, the surface retains a natural look and you give the spores the best chance to develop under suitable conditions.

The complete ShroomRoom system

ShroomRoom MossMix works best as part of the complete ShroomRoom system. Each product has its own function within it.

First, create the shape with ShroomRoom Tropical Clay. This allows you to model backdrops, root structures, planting areas, relief, edges, and natural details. Next, use ShroomRoom MossBase as a preparatory decorative base layer. MossBase helps to distribute dry moss mixtures more stably across the surface. Finally, apply ShroomRoom MossMix as a green finish using Asian mosses and fern spores.

In short: Tropical Clay is for the shape, MossBase for the base, and MossMix for the natural green effect. Together, these three products are ideal for anyone who wants to create a terrarium, paludarium, or bottle forest that looks like a small piece of tropical nature.

Why combine with ShroomRoom MossBase?

For the best results, we recommend combining ShroomRoom MossMix with ShroomRoom MossBase. MossMix contains the mosses and fern spores, but MossBase provides a better decorative base on which the mix can be distributed more stably. This is especially useful for vertical walls, side walls, cork, wood, glass, or ShroomRoom Tropical Clay structures.

When applying MossMix directly to a smooth or difficult surface, it can be harder to distribute the mix evenly. With MossBase, you first create a preparatory layer. You can then apply MossMix thinly, allowing for more controlled application and a more natural end result.

This combination is particularly effective for homemade backdrops and sculptures. Tropical Clay provides depth and form, MossBase helps with distribution, and MossMix ensures a green, vibrant appearance.

Suitable for terrariums, paludariums, and bottle forests

ShroomRoom MossMix is well-suited for tropical terrariums, paludariums, and bottle forests where moisture, natural materials, and a realistic appearance are important. In a terrarium, you can use the mix on backdrops, side walls, cork, wood, and clay. In a paludarium, MossMix helps to make the transition between land, water, roots, and plants more natural. In a bottle forest, the mix creates a forest-like atmosphere with more detail and depth.

ShroomRoom MossMix is also interesting for poison dart frog terrariums and other tropical vivariums, especially when working with high humidity and natural backgrounds. The mix is intended exclusively for decorative use and is not a food, fertilizer, substrate, or supplement.

Use of ShroomRoom MossMix

Apply ShroomRoom MossMix in a thin layer to the desired decorative surface. Preferably choose a slightly rough or prepared surface, such as cork, wood, stone, clay, a texture of ShroomRoom Tropical Clay, or a layer of ShroomRoom MossBase.

After application, gently spray the mixture with clean water. Ensure the surface remains moist, but prevent the mixture from washing away. Under the right conditions, the first visible results may appear after approximately one month.

Development depends on humidity, temperature, lighting, ventilation, the substrate, and the thickness of the applied layer. To preserve the natural structure, an environment with a humidity of approximately 70–80% and a temperature of around 25°C is recommended.

Economical to use

ShroomRoom MossMix comes in a 10-gram package. Depending on the technique used and the thickness of the layer, this is sufficient for approximately 0.6 m² of surface area. Because the renewed mix is finer and contains no sphagnum moss, you can spread it thinly. A thin, even layer usually gives the most natural result.

For larger backdrops or projects where you want to treat multiple surfaces, it is advisable to use MossMix together with ShroomRoom MossBase and Tropical Clay. This way, you build up the terrarium layer by layer and gain more control over the finish.

Save and apply

Store ShroomRoom MossMix in a dry, tightly sealed container. After opening, it is advisable to use the product within a reasonable time. Prolonged storage can affect the natural appearance and quality of the mix.

For those who want to create a moss spore terrarium with green walls, natural details, and a realistic tropical atmosphere, ShroomRoom MossMix is a strong choice. The updated composition with more species, more spores, and no dead sphagnum moss ensures a finer texture and better distribution on the side walls. In combination with ShroomRoom MossBase and Tropical Clay, you create a complete system for natural, vegetated terrarium surfaces.
