The Arcadia Pro T5 Max Set ShadeDweller 2.5% UVB has been developed to give reptiles natural access to UV radiation. Snakes and other reptiles that regularly seek out sheltered spots, in particular, can benefit from a carefully tuned UVB zone.

The complete lighting kit consists of a 14-watt T5 UVB lamp, an electronic Pro T5 fixture, and a polished reflector. The included power and connection cables make for a convenient installation.

With a total fixture length of approximately 57 cm, you can create a wide UV zone. This makes the ShadeDweller Max particularly appealing for snakes, as it allows a larger portion of their bodies to be exposed to appropriate UV radiation.

2.5% UVB and 12% UVA for natural lighting conditions

The included ShadeDweller Max T5 lamp produces 2.5% UVB and 12% UVA.

UVB radiation supports the natural production of vitamin D3 in many reptiles. This vitamin plays an important role in calcium absorption and thus contributes to healthy bone development and normal muscle function.

UVA is also a component of natural sunlight. Many reptiles can detect UVA and use this radiation to recognize their surroundings.

Although the ShadeDweller Max produces only 2.5% UVB, its actual UVB output is not necessarily lower than that of any lamp with a higher percentage. Thanks to its 14-watt power rating and efficient reflector, the lamp can deliver a usable UV index over a relatively large area.

Suitable for various snake

species
. The Arcadia ShadeDweller Max was specially developed with snakes’ natural UV needs in mind.

Depending on the mounting distance and the desired UV index, the set may be suitable for, among other things:

• Royal Pythons
• Corn snakes
• King snakes and milk snakes
• Rat snakes
• Hook-nosed snakes
• Certain boas
• Other reptiles with low to moderate UVB requirements

Reptiles that are primarily active at dusk can also make partial use of UV radiation during the day.

The appropriate UVB requirement varies by animal species. Therefore, always provide sufficient shaded areas and adjust the mounting distance to suit the animal.

Wide UV range with a high-quality Pro T5 reflector

A key advantage of the Arcadia Pro T5 Max Set ShadeDweller 2.5% UVB is the longer T5 lamp, measuring approximately 55 cm.

Compared to the compact 8-watt ShadeDweller 7% UVB lamp, this model distributes UV radiation over a larger area.

This is particularly interesting for snakes and other elongated reptiles. They can position a larger portion of their bodies within the UV zone.

The polished reflector efficiently directs the light and UV radiation downward. This allows for better utilization of the available UVB output.

The reflector is removable, which makes cleaning and maintaining the fixture easier.

UV index and recommended mounting distance

With UVB lighting, it’s not just the UVB percentage that matters. The actual UV index determines how much biologically effective UV radiation the reptile receives at a given distance.

Arcadia provides the following indicative values for the ShadeDweller Max Pro T5 setup:

These values are approximate and apply to the corresponding test setup without an intermediate mesh.

A metal mesh cover can reduce UVB intensity. Glass blocks virtually all UVB radiation.

It is best to use a suitable UV meter to check the UV index in the animal’s living area. In addition, ensure a natural light gradient with both illuminated and fully shaded areas.

Easy-to-install and expandable lighting system

The Arcadia Pro T5 Max Set ShadeDweller 2.5% UVB features an integrated electronic ballast and comes with the necessary power cord.

Using the included connection cable, you can link multiple compatible Arcadia Pro T5 fixtures or suitable JungleDawn LED Bars.

Arcadia supports daisy-chaining up to ten compatible lighting units, provided the total electrical load remains within the permitted limits.

This makes the set practical for larger terrariums and terrarium setups as well.

The Arcadia Pro T5 Max Set ShadeDweller 2.5% UVB is not a heat lamp. For reptiles that require additional heat, combine the UVB lighting with a suitable basking lamp or other heat source.

This model is part of the conventional Pro T5 series and does not feature LumenIZE app control.

Difference between ShadeDweller 7% and ShadeDweller Max 2.5%

The Arcadia Pro T5 Max Set ShadeDweller 2.5% UVB has a lower UVB percentage but higher wattage and a longer tube. As a result, when mounted at the proper distance, this lamp can provide a comparable UV index over a wider area.

The choice therefore depends primarily on the desired UV index, the terrarium dimensions, and the species being kept.

Usage recommendations

Install the UVB kit according to Arcadia’s instructions and ensure it is securely mounted. Take into account the distance between the lamp and the reptile’s highest resting and climbing spots.

Create a suitable UV zone and ensure that the animal can also completely avoid UV radiation. Preferably measure the UV index with a UV meter.

Do not use the light in places where it may come into direct contact with water or condensation.

Replace the included ShadeDweller Max 14W UVB bulb after about twelve months. Even if the bulb still emits visible light, UVB output may decrease over time.

The Arcadia ShadeDweller 2.5% UVB T5 14-watt lamp is available separately as a replacement bulb.
