Arcadia Lamp Protection Cage for Safer Terrarium Heating
The Arcadia Lamp Protection Cage is a sturdy metal safety cage specially designed to protect reptiles from direct contact with hot heat lamps. When a heat lamp is mounted inside a terrarium, animals can reach the lamp or the hot socket. This can cause severe burns.
The Arcadia Lamp Protection Cage shields the heat source without completely enclosing the lamp. The open wire construction allows heat and light to pass through, while making direct contact with the lamp more difficult.
The protective cage is suitable for a variety of terrarium heating options, including halogen heat lamps, basking lamps, ceramic heat emitters, and Arcadia Deep Heat Projectors.
Thanks to its compact design, sturdy mounting points, and convenient bottom flap, this lamp cage is a practical addition to a safely set-up reptile terrarium.
Protect Reptiles from Hot Heat Lamps
Heat lamps can reach very high temperatures when in use. Reptiles that like to climb—such as snakes, geckos, and certain lizards—are particularly likely to get unexpectedly close to a heat source.
Animals that regularly move along the ceiling or the top of the terrarium are also at risk when a heat lamp is mounted without a protective cover.
The Arcadia Lamp Protection Cage creates a physical barrier between the animal and the lamp.
This reduces the risk of direct contact with the hot glass, the ceramic heat source, or the lamp holder.
A protective cage is therefore particularly important when the heat source is within the animal’s reach.
Please note that the metal mesh can also become hot. A protective cage therefore never replaces proper mounting distance and a safe terrarium setup.
Suitable for various types of heat lamps
The Arcadia Lamp Protective Cage is designed for various heat sources with a power rating of up to 150 watts.
This allows you to use the same protective cage for a variety of terrarium heating applications.
The cage is suitable for compatible models of, among others:
- Arcadia Solar Basking Spotlight
- Arcadia Solar Basking Floodlight
- Arcadia Halogen Basking Spot
- Arcadia Infrared Heat Spot
- Arcadia Deep Heat Projector
- Arcadia Ceramic Heat Lamp
- Arcadia D3 Basking Mini 80W
Always check to make sure the selected lamp and lamp holder fit completely inside the protective cage and that the combination is supported by the manufacturer.
The maximum power rating of 150 watts does not mean that every 150-watt bulb is automatically suitable. The bulb’s dimensions and heat output are also important.
Sturdy metal wire construction
The Arcadia Lamp Protection Cage is constructed as an all-metal wire cage.
The open design allows heat and light from the lamp to be distributed throughout the terrarium.
At the same time, the mesh forms a protective barrier around the heat source.
Thanks to its round shape, the cage fits snugly around various types of lamps and ceramic heating elements.
The protective cage is 22 centimeters tall and 12 centimeters in diameter.
As a result, the cage offers ample space for various compatible heat sources, while remaining relatively compact overall.
Convenient spring-loaded bottom flap
A practical advantage of the Arcadia Lamp Protective Cage is the spring-loaded flap on the bottom.
This flap allows you to access the light without removing the entire protective cage from the terrarium.
When a heat lamp needs to be replaced, you can open the bottom cover to access the lamp.
This makes maintenance and bulb replacement easier, especially when the protective cage is securely attached to the ceiling of the terrarium.
Always turn off the lamp and let it cool completely before opening the cover or replacing the lamp.
Easy installation in the terrarium
The Arcadia Lamp Protection Cage is equipped with flat mounting eyelets that allow the cage to be securely attached to a suitable surface.
This makes the protective cage particularly suitable for mounting on the ceiling of wooden terrariums or other enclosures with a suitable mounting structure.
The cage also has an opening through which the power cord from the lamp holder can be routed.
This helps keep the wiring neatly out of the immediate heat zone.
Always use appropriate fasteners and verify that the surface can safely support the weight of the protective cage and the lighting fixture being used.
Pair it with a ceramic E27 lamp holder
For safe installation of terrarium heating, not only is the protective cage important, but so is the lamp holder used.
Heat lamps can generate a lot of heat. That is why a heat-resistant ceramic E27 socket is usually the right choice for compatible E27 heat lamps.
The Arcadia Lamp Protection Cage is designed to be placed over a compatible heat lamp and lamp holder.
A good combination, for example, is the Arcadia Ceramic Lamp Holder Pro with a compatible heat source.
Make sure the lamp has enough space inside the protective cage and is not touching the metal mesh.
Suitable for various reptile terrariums
The Arcadia Lamp Protection Cage can be used in various types of reptile enclosures.
In desert terrariums, the cage helps shield the animals from powerful basking lamps.
In tropical terrariums, the cage can be placed around suitable heat sources for species that like to climb.
Proper screening is also important for snake enclosures, because snakes can easily move along branches and other parts of the enclosure.
The protective cage can be used in terrariums for bearded dragons, geckos, snakes, and other reptiles, among others, provided that the heat source used and the installation are suitable for the specific enclosure.
Protective cage or reflector fixture?
A lamp protective cage serves a different purpose than a reflector fixture.
A reflector fixture is designed to support a lamp and direct the light or heat radiation in a specific direction.
A protective cage, on the other hand, forms a physical barrier around a heat source.
| Feature | Protective cage | Reflector fixture |
|---|---|---|
| Protection against direct contact with the lamp | Yes | Depending on the model |
| Physical barrier around the lamp | Yes | Not always |
| E27 socket included | No | Usually yes |
| Reflection of Light | No | Yes |
| Suitable for installation in a terrarium | Yes, when installed correctly | Depends on the model |
| Main Function | Safety shield | Lamp mounting and beam direction |
When installing a heat lamp inside a terrarium, a suitable protective cage is an important safety measure.

A heat lamp, ceramic lamp holder, and thermostat are not included.
Instructions for use
Mount the Arcadia Lamp Protection Cage securely around a suitable heat lamp and lamp holder.
Check beforehand to make sure the lamp fits completely inside the protective cage and is at a sufficient distance from the metal mesh.
Use only heat sources that are suitable for this protective cage, and do not exceed the maximum supported power of 150 watts.
Make sure the reptile cannot use the protective cage as a place to sit or climb. The metal mesh can also become hot during use.
Keep a sufficient distance between the heat source, the animal, and flammable materials such as wood, cork, and plants.
When using adjustable heat sources, use an appropriate thermostat to prevent overheating. Some lamps, including certain UVB mercury vapor lamps, must not be used with a dimming or switching thermostat. Therefore, always follow the instructions for the specific lamp.
Turn off the power and let the lamp cool completely before opening the protective cage.
