Arcadia Euro-Range Desert 10% UV T8 Lamp – powerful UVB lighting for desert reptiles
The Arcadia Euro-Range Desert 10% UV T8 Lamp is specially designed for reptiles that naturally inhabit sunny, open habitats and have relatively high UVB requirements.
In deserts, semi-deserts, and savanna regions, reptiles are regularly exposed to intense sunlight. UVB radiation plays an important role in various natural bodily processes.
With the Arcadia Euro-Range Desert, you can create a suitable UV zone where reptiles can bask in UV light.
The lamp emits 10% UVB and 12% UVA and has a color temperature of 6,600 Kelvin. This produces bright, natural-looking daylight that is suitable for various types of reptiles.
The Euro-Range Desert is available in five different lengths and wattages, so you can tailor the UVB lighting to your existing fixture and the dimensions of your terrarium.
10% UVB supports the natural production of vitamin D3
UVB radiation is important for many reptiles in the natural production of vitamin D3.
When exposed to appropriate UVB radiation, the body can produce vitamin D3. This vitamin supports the absorption and utilization of calcium.
Calcium is essential for, among other things, normal bone development, muscle function, and various other bodily processes.
A prolonged deficiency of adequate UVB radiation, combined with insufficient calcium and vitamin D3, can contribute to metabolic bone disease and other health problems.
The Arcadia Euro-Range Desert emits 10% UVB and is designed for applications where a relatively higher UVB intensity is desired.
However, the UVB percentage does not directly indicate how much UV radiation the animal actually receives. The actual UV index is determined by factors such as the mounting distance, the reflector, and any shielding provided by mesh.
Suitable for bearded dragons and other sun-loving reptiles
The Arcadia Euro-Range Desert 10% UV T8 Lamp is particularly suitable for reptiles that naturally seek out direct sunlight on a regular basis.
Depending on the mounting distance and the desired UV index, the lamp may be suitable for:
- Bearded Dragons
- Uromastyx (spiny-tailed lizards)
- Certain agamas
- Some skink species
- Other sun-loving lizards from open habitats
This lamp can also be used to create a suitable UVB zone for certain reptiles from dry savanna regions.
Not every species of desert reptile has the same UVB requirements.
Furthermore, at greater mounting distances, a T8 lamp may not provide sufficient UVB for species with high UV requirements. In such situations, a more powerful T5 UVB system may be more suitable.
Therefore, always choose a lamp based on the species, the height of the terrarium, and the desired UV index.
12% UVA for more natural light and behavior
In addition to UVB, the Arcadia Euro-Range Desert also emits UVA radiation.
UVA is a component of natural sunlight and can be detected by many reptiles.
For various reptile species, UVA plays a role in recognizing food, other reptiles, and the environment.
The Arcadia Euro-Range Desert produces 12% UVA and has a natural daylight color temperature of 6600 Kelvin.
This makes the lamp a suitable supplement to daily terrarium lighting.
For a complete lighting setup, the UVB lamp can be combined with supplemental daylight lighting and a suitable heat source.
Natural daylight color of 6600 Kelvin
The Arcadia Euro-Range Desert has a color temperature of 6600 Kelvin.
This color temperature provides bright, cool daylight that is well-suited for naturally designed desert and savanna terrariums.
The lamp also has a high color rendering index, also known as CRI.
This allows the colors of reptiles, rocks, sand, and other terrarium decorations to be rendered naturally.
This helps create a realistic look for the terrarium.
However, the lamp is not a heat lamp and does not produce enough focused heat to create a suitable basking spot.
For reptiles that need a warm spot to bask in the sun, UVB lighting should therefore be combined with a suitable terrarium heat lamp.
High-quality German T8 technology
The Arcadia Euro-Range Desert 10% UV T8 Lamp uses T8 fluorescent technology.
T8 lamps have a diameter of 26 millimeters and are used in compatible fluorescent fixtures with a suitable ballast.
The Euro-Range series is manufactured in Germany and was developed to provide reliable UVB output at an attractive price.
According to Arcadia, the Euro-Range series can produce up to about three times more usable UVB than certain basic UVB bulbs.
The lamp also features protection against UVC radiation.
With this product, Arcadia offers a high-quality UVB replacement lamp for reptile keepers who use an existing T8 lighting system.
Available in five lengths and wattages
The Arcadia Euro-Range Desert 10% UV T8 Lamp is available in five different versions.
This allows you to match the length and wattage to your existing T8 fixture.
| Implementation | Power | Length | Manufacturer Code |
|---|---|---|---|
| 45 cm | 15 watts | 450 mm | RFRP15 |
| 60 cm | 18 watts | 600 mm | RFRP18 |
| 75 cm | 25 watts | 750 mm | RFRP25 |
| 90 cm | 30 watts | 900 mm | RFRP30 |
| 105 cm | 38 watts | 1050 mm | RFRP38 |
All models produce 10% UVB and 12% UVA.
The wattage and length determine which model is suitable for your existing fixture.
Therefore, always check the fixture’s specifications before purchasing a new UVB lamp.
Suitable as a replacement lamp for T8 fixtures
The Arcadia Euro-Range Desert 10% UV T8 Lamp is intended as a standalone replacement lamp for compatible T8 fixtures.
When an existing UVB lamp needs to be replaced, you don’t have to buy a whole new fixture.
You only need to replace the fluorescent tube.
The lamp is equipped with a standard G13 base and must be used with a compatible T8 ballast.
T8 and T5 lamps are not interchangeable.
Even when two lamps are roughly the same length, their wattage, diameter, and electrical specifications may differ.
Therefore, always check whether the fixture is suitable for the selected model.
Create an appropriate UV gradient
A well-designed terrarium allows reptiles to regulate their own exposure to UV radiation.
In the wild, many reptiles move between sunny spots, partial shade, and fully sheltered areas.
With the Arcadia Euro-Range Desert, you can create a similar light pattern.
Place the UVB lamp above a suitable area of the terrarium and make sure the animal can also retreat to areas with low UV levels.
For example, use rocks, hiding spots, branches, and other terrarium decorations to create natural shaded areas.
This allows the reptile to determine for itself how much UV radiation it receives.
The correct mounting distance depends on the desired UV index and the type of animal being kept.
Combine UVB lighting with a basking lamp
The Arcadia Euro-Range Desert 10% UV T8 Lamp emits UVB, UVA, and visible light, but it is not a heat lamp.
For bearded dragons and other sun-loving reptiles, it is important to provide a suitable heat source in addition to UVB lighting.
For example, a halogen basking lamp can be used to create a warm spot for basking.
By coordinating the UVB zone and the basking spot, the reptile can also receive appropriate UV radiation while warming up.
This mimics an important aspect of natural sun exposure.
The correct temperature and UV index vary by reptile species.
Therefore, measure both the temperature at the basking spot and the UV index at the animal’s current location.
Reliable UVB output for 9 months
Arcadia recommends a replacement interval of approximately nine months for the Euro-Range T8 series.
During use, the UVB output of fluorescent lamps gradually decreases.
Even when the lamp is still producing visible light, the amount of biologically effective UVB radiation may decrease over time.
It is therefore a good idea to keep track of the date the lamp was first put into use.
For an accurate assessment of UVB output, you can use a suitable UV meter.
Difference between Arcadia Euro-Range Forest 5% and Desert 10%
Arcadia has developed two different UVB models within the Euro-Range series.
The Forest 5% is intended for applications where a relatively moderate UVB intensity is desired.
The Desert 10% was developed for applications that require higher UVB intensity.
| Feature | Euro-Range Forest | Euro-Range Desert |
|---|---|---|
| UVB | 5% | 10% |
| UVA | 12% | 12% |
| Color Temperature | 6600K | 6600K |
| Lighting Technology | T8 | T8 |
| Diameter | 26 mm | 26 mm |
| Available lengths | 45–105 cm | 45–105 cm |
| Recommended replacement | 9 months | 9 months |
| Habitat | Forest and partially sheltered habitats | Species with higher UVB requirements |
The Desert model produces a higher percentage of UVB, but that does not mean it is automatically suitable for every species of desert reptile.
The right choice depends on the desired UV index, mounting distance, reflector, and the dimensions of the terrarium.

Instructions for use
Use the Arcadia Euro-Range Desert 10% UV T8 Lamp exclusively in a compatible T8 fixture with the correct ballast.
Turn off the power completely before installing or replacing the light bulb.
Check to see if the length and wattage match the specifications of the existing fixture.
Install the light according to the manufacturer’s instructions and make sure it is securely fastened in the sockets.
Place the UVB light above a suitable area in the terrarium and make sure the reptile can also retreat to sheltered spots.
Be mindful of the distance between the light and the animal.
Glass blocks virtually all UVB radiation, while mesh can significantly reduce UVB intensity.
Ideally, measure the UV index using a suitable UV meter and adjust the mounting distance based on the species of animal being kept.
Use supplemental heat and natural light as needed.
Replace the bulb according to Arcadia’s recommendations, usually after about nine months.
Please return used T8 bulbs to an appropriate collection point for fluorescent bulbs. Do not throw them away with regular trash.
