Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp 7% UVB for reptiles
The Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp 7% UVB is a high-quality compact UVB lamp specifically developed for reptiles from wooded and tropical habitats. This UVB energy-saving lamp combines 7% UVB radiation with 30% UVA and bright, natural-looking daylight. As a result, the lamp provides an important addition to the lighting of terrariums where reptiles depend on ultraviolet light.
Many reptiles use UVB radiation to produce vitamin D3 in their skin. This vitamin is essential for healthy calcium metabolism and plays an important role in the development and maintenance of strong bones.
The Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp uses modern fluorescent technology with high-quality phosphors manufactured in Germany. Thanks to its improved electronics and special UV-transmitting glass, the lamp provides stable and efficient light and UV output.
Its compact design and standard E27 base make this UVB lamp particularly practical for smaller terrariums and specific UV zones.
The Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp 7% UVB is available in two versions: 13 and 23 watts.
7% UVB supports the natural production of vitamin D3
The most important feature of the Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp is its 7% UVB content.
UVB radiation plays an important role in the natural production of vitamin D3 in many reptiles. Under the influence of UVB, vitamin D3 is produced in the skin, which is essential for the proper absorption and utilization of calcium.
Calcium is important for bone development, muscle function, and normal bodily processes, among other things.
When reptiles do not receive enough appropriate UVB radiation, this can contribute to impaired calcium metabolism. In severe cases, this can lead to metabolic bone disease.
The Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp 7% UVB helps provide reptiles with access to this important radiation within a suitable UV range.
The required UV intensity varies by animal species. Therefore, the mounting distance must always be adjusted to the animal’s natural UV requirements.
Designed for reptiles from forested habitats
The Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp is part of Arcadia Reptile’s Forest series.
This product line was developed for reptiles that are native to wooded areas, tropical forests, and other habitats where sunlight is partially filtered by vegetation.
In such habitats, reptiles can alternate between sunny spots, partial shade, and sheltered areas.
The Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp can help create a suitable UV zone where reptiles can voluntarily expose themselves to UVB radiation.
For example, the lamp can be used for certain day geckos, anoles, and other reptiles from forested habitats, provided that the UV intensity and mounting distance meet their species-specific needs.
UVB lighting can also be beneficial for certain amphibians, but careful adjustment is especially important in these cases because their UV requirements are often lower.
30% UVA for natural behavior and color perception
In addition to UVB, the Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp produces 30% UVA radiation.
Many reptiles can perceive UVA as part of their visible light spectrum. As a result, UVA may play a role in color perception, food recognition, and natural behavior.
The combination of UVA, UVB, and visible light makes the Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp suitable for use as part of a balanced lighting system.
By providing UV lighting in a suitable location, reptiles can choose for themselves when to expose themselves to the radiation.
It is also important that the terrarium includes enough shaded areas with low UV levels.
Bright daylight at 6500 Kelvin
The Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp 7% UVB produces bright daylight with a color temperature of 6500 Kelvin.
This relatively cool daylight color gives the terrarium a natural look and really brings out the colors of the animals, plants, and decorative materials.
The lamp has a color rendering index (CRI) of over 90. This ensures that colors are rendered true to life.
Not only does this make it easier to observe reptiles, but it also helps create a clear and vibrant-looking terrarium.
Tropical terrariums with dense plantings may require supplemental lighting to provide sufficient light for plant growth.
Improved electronics and German phosphor technology
Arcadia has updated the D3 Compact Lamp with improved electronics, high-quality phosphors, and special UV-transmitting glass.
The phosphors are made in Germany and provide a precisely formulated light spectrum.
The improved electronics contribute to stable operation and high light output.
In addition, Arcadia uses special glass that helps block unwanted UVC radiation while allowing the desired UVA and UVB radiation to pass through.
According to the manufacturer, the lamp is flicker-free and provides stable UV projection throughout the recommended period of use.
Available in 13- and 23-watt versions
The Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp 7% UVB is available in two different wattages.
Both versions emit 7% UVB and 30% UVA, but differ in power consumption and visible light output.
| Feature | 13 watts | 23 watts |
|---|---|---|
| UVB content | 7% | 7% |
| UVA content | 30% | 30% |
| Light output | 304 lumens | 798 lumens |
| Color temperature | 6500 K | 6500 K |
| Color Rendering | CRI >90 | CRI >90 |
| Socket | E27 | E27 |
| Manufacturer Code | RFD3C13X | RFD3C23X |
The 13W model is a good choice for compact setups where a limited UV zone is desired.
The 23W version has a higher light output and may be a good option when a larger or more powerful UV zone is needed.
The correct wattage does not depend solely on the dimensions of the terrarium. The UV requirements of the animal species, the mounting distance, and the fixture used are also determining factors.
Compact UVB lamp or linear T5 UVB lighting?
A compact UVB lamp has a different light distribution than a linear T5 UVB lamp.
The Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp emits UV radiation from a relatively compact light source. This makes the lamp suitable for creating a localized UV zone.
A linear T5 UVB lamp emits UV radiation over a larger area and is therefore often more suitable for longer terrariums.
| Feature | D3 Compact Lamp | Arcadia Pro T5 UVB |
|---|---|---|
| Type | Compact fluorescent lamp | Linear T5 tube |
| Socket | E27 | T5 fixture |
| UV Distribution | Local UV Zone | Broader UV zone |
| External ballast | Not required | Integrated into the fixture |
| Application | Compact setups | Larger or longer terrariums |
| Heat Source | Required separately | Required separately |
For larger terrariums or reptiles that require a broad UV gradient, a linear T5 UVB system is generally the better choice.
E27 base without external ballast
The Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp 7% UVB features a standard E27 screw base.
Thanks to its built-in ballast, the bulb can be inserted directly into a compatible E27 socket.
A separate ballast or special T5 fixture is not required.
It is recommended that you use a suitable reflector fixture for compact UVB lamps. The reflector can help direct the available light and UV radiation more efficiently toward the desired area.
Be sure not to place the lamp behind regular glass or plastic, as these materials can block a significant portion of the UVB radiation.
Up to 12 months of effective UVB output
Arcadia specifies a recommended service life of twelve months for the D3 Compact Lamp.
During this period, the lamp is designed to maintain a usable level of UV output when used correctly.
Please note that the UVB output of fluorescent lamps decreases over time, even though the lamp may still produce visible light.
That means that a lamp that is still on does not automatically emit enough UVB.
Therefore, replace the Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp according to the manufacturer’s instructions or check the UV index with a suitable UV meter.
Combining UVB lighting with a heat lamp
The Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp 7% UVB is intended for UV lighting and visible daylight. The lamp is not a sufficient heat source for a basking spot.
In addition to UVB, many reptiles also need a suitable heat lamp to regulate their body temperature.
For this purpose, you can use, for example, an Arcadia Solar Basking Floodlight or Halogen Basking Spot.
By carefully coordinating the UVB zone and the basking spot, the reptile can benefit from both heat and UV radiation while basking.
Also, make sure to include cooler areas and areas with low UV levels in the terrarium.

Instructions for use
Place the Arcadia D3 Compact Lamp 7% UVB in a suitable E27 lamp holder or reflector fixture suitable for compact fluorescent lamps.
Mount the lamp above an area where the reptile can voluntarily expose itself to UVB radiation. When determining the mounting height, take into account the UV requirements of the species and the light distribution of the fixture being used.
It is best to measure the UV index using a suitable UV meter. The percentage of UVB listed on the packaging is not a direct indication of the UV index that the animal receives at a specific distance.
Do not place the lamp behind glass or plastic that blocks UVB radiation.
Provide plenty of shaded areas with low UV levels so that reptiles can regulate their own exposure to UV radiation.
Use the lamp during the day and turn it off during the nighttime rest period.
Combine the UVB lamp with a suitable heat source if the species you are keeping requires a warm basking spot.
Replace the bulb after twelve months, as recommended by Arcadia, unless UV measurements indicate that replacement is necessary sooner.
