Iso Tail Food for springtails and tropical isopods

Iso Tail Food is a complete, natural, and finely ground feed for springtails and tropical isopods. Its composition provides small soil-dwelling organisms with essential nutrients without unnecessarily burdening the culture with high protein levels.

In the wild, springtails and isopods feed on items such as fungi, microorganisms, decaying plant matter, and leaves. In a culture container or bioactive terrarium, these food sources are more limited. Iso Tail Food supplements this natural diet with a carefully formulated blend of plant-based ingredients, vitamins, minerals, beta-carotene, and calcium.

Thanks to its very fine texture, the food is accessible even to the smallest springtails and young isopods. The powder can be spread thinly over the culture medium, giving the animals easy access to the food and leaving little unused feed behind.

Why a balanced protein content is important

Many feeds for springtails and isopods contain relatively high levels of protein. If excessive amounts of protein-rich food remain in a moist culture, the decomposition process can deplete a significant amount of oxygen from the surrounding environment. This can disrupt the culture’s stability and, in severe cases, contribute to the culture’s collapse.

This food has therefore been deliberately formulated without an unnecessarily high protein content. The animals receive what they need, while the risk of decaying food scraps and a contaminated substrate is reduced. This makes the product suitable for regular use in both standard breeding containers and bioactive terrariums.

Natural ingredients for a healthy culture

The carefully selected ingredients provide a varied combination of plant-based nutrients, vitamins, and minerals. Calcium carbonate supports the development and maintenance of a strong exoskeleton in isopods. Beta-carotene, spirulina, and beetroot supplement the diet with natural pigments and various micronutrients.

Why Biotopo consciously chooses this feed

At Biotopo, we breed our own springtails and use tropical isopods in bioactive terrariums. A stable culture is important because these small animals serve as a cleanup crew, and springtails also make suitable prey for young and small terrarium inhabitants.

We deliberately choose Iso Tail Food exclusively as the complete feed for these cultures. In our experience, its fine texture and balanced composition best meet the needs of springtails and tropical isopods. For this reason, we do not offer comparable feeds from other brands within this product category.

How to feed springtails and isopods

Sprinkle a small amount evenly over the culture medium every five to six days. The surface only needs to be lightly covered with powder. Do not add more food until most of it has been consumed. Adjust the quantity according to the size and density of the culture.

Always keep a springtail or woodlouse culture slightly moist, but avoid completely wet or waterlogged substrate. For isopods, it is important to provide dry tree leaves in addition to powdered food; leaf litter forms a natural part of their diet while also offering hiding places.

Ideal for bioactive terrariums

Springtails and tropical isopods help clean up fungi, decaying plant matter, droppings, and other organic material. A well-nourished population contributes to an active and stable soil system.

Always feed in moderation. A thin layer is sufficient and helps prevent uneaten food from accumulating. This keeps the culture clean and ensures you have a strong, productive population for the long term.

Storage instructions

Store the packaging in a cool, dry place and keep it tightly closed. Always use a clean, completely dry spoon for dosing. Prevent moisture or culture material from entering the packaging and close the lid immediately after use. The product has a shelf life of three years in its unopened original packaging.
