The HabiStat Digital Dimming Day/Night Thermostat and Timer combines precise temperature control with an automatic day-and-night cycle. The thermostat gradually adjusts the power of the connected heat source, rather than constantly turning it fully on and off. This keeps the terrarium temperature more stable and allows for the control of glowing heat lamps without visible flickering.
HabiStat Digital Dimming Day/Night Thermostat and Timer
Reptiles and other terrarium animals rely on their environment to regulate their body temperature. Without a thermostat, a heat source continues to operate at full power, which can cause the temperature to rise too high when room temperature or ventilation changes.
The dimming thermostat continuously measures the temperature at the sensor and increases or decreases the output power. As the terrarium approaches the set temperature, the power is gradually reduced. This results in smaller temperature fluctuations than with a standard on/off thermostat.
This makes the device suitable for basking lamps, halogen heat lamps, and deep heat projectors. Other compatible heating devices, such as ceramic heat radiators and heating mats, can also be controlled. The maximum connected load is 600 watts.
Do not use this thermostat to dim a UVB lamp or standard LED lighting. These light sources require their own suitable fixtures and, if necessary, their own controls.
Automatic Day and Night Temperature Control in the Terrarium
Many reptiles experience a temperature difference between day and night in the wild. With this digital terrarium thermostat, you can set separate day and night temperatures. The device automatically switches between the two settings at the programmed times.
This allows you to provide a warm basking area during the day and set a controlled temperature drop at night. This is useful for bearded dragons, leopard geckos, snakes, and other species for which a day-night cycle is part of their care routine.
The required temperatures vary by animal species. Therefore, always set the thermostat based on reliable care guidelines and check both the warm and cool zones separately.
Built-in timers for lighting and climate control equipment
In addition to the temperature-controlled outlet, the device has a second timer-controlled outlet. This allows you to automatically control, for example, terrarium lighting, a fan, or a misting system.
Within a 24-hour period, you can set two separate on and off times. This means you’ll need fewer individual timers for simple daily schedules. Please note that this second connection is time-controlled and is not regulated based on the measured temperature.
The digital display continuously shows the current temperature and time. A power meter indicates what percentage of the available power is being directed to the heating system. This allows you to see immediately how aggressively the thermostat is adjusting the temperature at that moment.
Differences from the Classic Pro Dimming Thermostat
The Classic Pro Dimming Thermostat is designed for customers who want to precisely control a single heat source. The HabiStat Digital Dimming Day/Night model offers more automation:
| Function | Digital Day/Night Dimming | Classic Pro Dimming |
|---|---|---|
| Dimming Temperature Control | Yes | Yes |
| Separate day and night temperatures | Yes | No |
| Built-in clock | Yes | No |
| Second time-controlled connection | Yes | No |
| Statement of Assets | Yes | No |
| Maximum power | 600 watts | 450 watts |
| Sensor | Water-resistant, 3 meters | Detachable sensor |
The Classic Pro is a user-friendly, entry-level option. The HabiStat Digital Dimming Day/Night is better suited for a more elaborate terrarium where temperature, lighting, and additional equipment need to work together automatically.
Safety Alarm and Temperature Control
The HabiStat Digital Dimming Day/Night measures to an accuracy of 0.1 °C and features adjustable upper and lower limits. If the temperature falls outside these limits, the device triggers a visual and audible alarm. The alarm function can be disabled if desired.
The settings are retained in the event of a temporary power outage. However, independent monitoring remains important. This is because the thermostat measures temperature only at the sensor and does not automatically indicate what the temperature is elsewhere in the terrarium.

Manual
Place the HabiStat Digital Dimming Day/Night sensor securely in the relevant warm zone, without direct contact with the heat source. Prevent the animal from moving or covering the sensor. Connect the heater to the temperature-controlled outlet and any lighting, ventilation, or misting equipment to the timer-controlled outlet.
Test the entire setup before placing the animal in the terrarium. Monitor at least one full day-and-night cycle and use both a digital thermometer and an infrared thermometer. Do not exceed the maximum power of 600 watts, and keep the control unit dry.
