Arcadia Euro-Range Forest 5% UV T8 Lamp – UVB lighting for tropical reptiles
The Arcadia Euro-Range Forest 5% UV T8 Lamp is specially developed for reptiles that naturally live in forests, rainforests, and other areas with partially filtered sunlight.
In tropical habitats, sunlight is often partially blocked by trees, leaves, and other vegetation. This creates different light zones where reptiles can choose for themselves how much UV radiation they receive.
With the Arcadia Euro-Range Forest, you can recreate these conditions in a terrarium.
The lamp emits 5% UVB and 12% UVA and has a color temperature of 6,600 Kelvin. This creates a natural-looking lighting environment suitable for a wide variety of reptile species.
The Euro-Range Forest is available in various lengths, so you can match the UVB lighting to the dimensions of your terrarium.
This refers exclusively to the T8 UVB bulb sold separately, without a fixture.
5% UVB supports the natural production of vitamin D3
UVB radiation plays an important role in the natural production of vitamin D3 in many reptiles.
When exposed to appropriate UVB radiation, the body can produce vitamin D3. This vitamin supports the absorption and utilization of calcium.
Calcium is essential for, among other things, normal bone development, muscle function, and various bodily processes.
A prolonged deficiency of adequate UVB radiation, combined with insufficient calcium and vitamin D3, can contribute to health problems such as metabolic bone disease.
The Arcadia Euro-Range Forest emits 5% UVB and is designed for reptiles that require low to moderate UV intensity.
The UVB percentage does not directly indicate how much UV radiation the animal actually receives. The actual UV index is determined, among other things, by the distance from the lamp, the reflector, and any shielding provided by mesh.
Suitable for various forest and rainforest reptiles
The Arcadia Euro-Range Forest 5% UV T8 Lamp can be used for a wide variety of reptiles that naturally inhabit partially sheltered environments.
Depending on the mounting distance and the layout of the terrarium, the lamp may be a good choice for:
- Certain tropical geckos
- Various anole species
- Some tree geckos
- Certain tropical snakes
- Reptiles that live in wooded and partially sheltered areas
A carefully calibrated UVB zone may also be suitable for certain amphibians.
Not every tropical reptile species has the same UVB requirements. Some diurnal forest reptiles require significantly more UV radiation than other species.
Therefore, always adjust the UV index and mounting distance to the specific animal species.
12% UVA for more natural light and behavior
In addition to UVB, the Arcadia Euro-Range Forest 5% UV T8 Lamp also produces UVA radiation.
UVA is a component of natural sunlight and can be perceived by many reptiles.
In various species, UVA plays a role in recognizing food, conspecifics, and the environment.
The Arcadia Euro-Range Forest produces 12% UVA and provides a natural-looking daylight color.
As a result, the lamp serves as a suitable source of daily lighting for many tropical terrariums.
For additional visible light and to support plant growth, the UVB lamp can be combined with supplemental LED daylight lighting.
Natural daylight color of 6600 Kelvin
The Arcadia Euro-Range Forest has a color temperature of 6600 Kelvin.
This color temperature provides bright, cool daylight that works well with a naturally decorated terrarium.
The lamp also has a high color rendering index, also known as CRI.
This ensures that the colors of reptiles, plants, and terrarium decorations are rendered naturally.
This creates a fresh and realistic look, especially in tropical terrariums with lots of greenery.
However, the lamp is not intended to be the primary growth light for plants. Densely planted vivariums may require supplemental LED lighting.
High-quality German T8 technology
The Arcadia Euro-Range Forest 5% UV T8 Lamp uses T8 fluorescent technology.
T8 lamps have a diameter of 26 millimeters and are used in compatible fluorescent fixtures.
The Euro-Range series is manufactured in Germany and was developed to provide reliable UVB output at an attractive price.
According to Arcadia, the Euro-Range series can produce up to about three times more usable UVB than certain basic UVB lamps.
The lamp also features protection against UVC radiation.
With this product, Arcadia offers an affordable UVB replacement lamp without compromising on the quality of the light spectrum.
Available in various lengths and wattages
The Arcadia Euro-Range Forest 5% UV T8 Lamp is available in various models.
This allows you to match the length of the lamp to your existing fixture and the dimensions of your terrarium.
| Implementation | Power | Length | Manufacturer Code |
|---|---|---|---|
| 45 cm | 15 watts | 450 mm | RFR15 |
| 60 cm | 18 watts | 600 mm | RFR18 |
| 75 cm | 25 watts | 750 mm | RFR25 |
| 90 cm | 30 watts | 900 mm | RFR30 |
| 105 cm | 38 watts | 1050 mm | RFR38 |
All models produce 5% UVB and 12% UVA.
The wattage and length determine which model is suitable for your existing T8 fixture.
Therefore, always check the fixture’s specifications before purchasing a new UVB lamp.
Suitable as a replacement lamp for T8 fixtures
The Arcadia Euro-Range Forest 5% UV T8 Lamp is intended as a standalone replacement lamp for compatible T8 fixtures.
So when an existing UVB lamp needs to be replaced, you don’t have to buy a whole new fixture.
You only need to replace the fluorescent tube.
The lamp is equipped with a standard G13 base and must be used with a compatible T8 ballast.
T8 and T5 lamps are not interchangeable.
Even when two lamps are roughly the same length, their wattage, diameter, and electrical specifications may differ.
Therefore, always check whether the fixture is suitable for the selected model.
Create a natural UV gradient
A well-designed terrarium allows reptiles to regulate their own exposure to UV radiation.
In nature, many animals move between sunny spots, partial shade, and fully sheltered areas.
With the Arcadia Euro-Range Forest 5% UV T8 Lamp, you can create a similar light distribution.
Place the UVB lamp above a suitable area of the terrarium and make sure the animal can also retreat to areas with low UV levels.
For example, use cork bark, branches, plants, and other decorative items to create natural shaded areas.
This creates a UV gradient that allows the reptile to determine for itself how much UV radiation it receives.
The correct mounting distance depends on the desired UV index and the type of animal being kept.
Reliable UVB output for 9 months
Arcadia recommends a service life of approximately nine months for the Euro-Range T8 series before the lamp needs to be replaced.
During use, the UVB output of fluorescent lamps gradually decreases.
Even when the lamp is still producing visible light, the amount of biologically effective UVB radiation may become insufficient over time.
It is therefore advisable to keep track of the replacement date.
For an accurate assessment of UVB output, you can use a suitable UV meter.
Difference between Arcadia Euro-Range Forest 5% and Desert 10%
Arcadia has developed two different UVB models within the Euro-Range series.
The Forest 5% is intended for applications where a relatively moderate UVB intensity is desired.
The Desert 10% is designed for applications where a higher UVB intensity is required.
| Feature | Euro-Range Forest | Euro-Range Desert |
|---|---|---|
| UVB | 5% | 10% |
| UVA | 12% | 12% |
| Color Temperature | 6600K | 6600K |
| Lighting Technology | T8 | T8 |
| Diameter | 26 mm | 26 mm |
| Recommended replacement | 9 months | 9 months |
| Habitat | Forest and partially sheltered habitats | Species with higher UVB requirements |
The choice between the two lamps does not depend solely on the natural habitat.
The mounting distance, the type of reflector, the height of the terrarium, and the desired UV index also play an important role.
Combine with appropriate heat and daylight lighting
The Arcadia Euro-Range Forest 5% UV T8 Lamp emits UVB, UVA, and visible light, but is not a heat lamp.
For reptiles that need a warm basking spot, UVB lighting must therefore be combined with a suitable heat source.
Depending on the species, this could be, for example, a halogen basking lamp or another suitable terrarium heat lamp.
For tropical and bioactive terrariums, supplemental LED daylight lighting may be worth considering.
A suitable Arcadia JungleDawn LED bar provides additional visible light and can support the growth of terrarium plants.
By carefully balancing UVB, heat, and daylight, you can create a natural and functional terrarium environment.
