The Arcadia Deep Heat Projector mimics a significant portion of the sun’s natural heat using infrared-A and infrared-B. This heat radiation helps provide targeted and effective heating for reptiles and the basking area. The projector produces virtually no visible light and can therefore provide heat both during the day and at night without unnecessarily disrupting the natural day-night cycle.
Arcadia Deep Heat Projector with Infrared-A and Infrared-B
Many traditional ceramic heat emitters primarily produce Infrared-C. This mainly heats surfaces and the surrounding air. The Arcadia Deep Heat Projector also emits infrared-A and infrared-B. These wavelengths more closely mimic the heat radiation of natural sunlight and are absorbed deeper into the skin and underlying tissue.
This allows your reptile to warm up more efficiently than with a heat source that primarily heats the surrounding air. Arcadia states that the 50-watt model can actually perform even better in terms of heat generation and projection than a 100-watt ceramic heat lamp.
Wide basking zone without visible light
A thick internal reflector directs the heat downward and minimizes unnecessary heat loss. This creates a relatively wide heat beam that allows you to establish a distinct basking zone. It is recommended to place a suitable rock or other heat-retaining surface under the projector. This absorbs the radiant heat and gradually releases it.
Because the projector produces virtually no visible light, it can also be used for nighttime heating. However, it is not a substitute for a daylight or UVB lamp. Reptiles still need a clear light cycle during the day. Therefore, combine the Deep Heat Projector with appropriate UVB lighting and bright, visible daylight as needed.
For leopard geckos, snakes, and other reptiles
The Arcadia Deep Heat Projector is suitable for a wide variety of reptiles, including leopard geckos, ball pythons, corn snakes, and other species that benefit from targeted radiant heat. For diurnal sun-lovers such as bearded dragons, it can provide supplemental heat, but a basking lamp that emits light often better mimics the natural combination of light and heat during the day.
Which model is suitable depends on the size and material of the terrarium, the ventilation, ambient temperature, mounting height, and desired basking temperature. Don’t automatically choose the highest wattage. A properly calibrated heat source controlled by a thermostat provides greater control over temperature fluctuations.
Difference between 50 and 80 watts
The 50-watt model is intended for small to medium-sized enclosures or situations where the distance to the basking zone is limited. The 80-watt version provides more heat and is better suited for larger terrariums, a greater mounting distance, or animals with higher heat requirements.
The values below are Arcadia’s approximate measurements. The actual temperature may vary depending on ventilation, room temperature, mesh, furnishings, and the material of the basking area.
| Distance to basking area | 50 watts | 80 watts |
|---|---|---|
| 15 cm | Approx. 55 °C | Approx. 62 °C |
| 20 cm | Approximately 45 °C | Approx. 51 °C |
| 30 cm | Approx. 36 °C | Approx. 44 °C |
| 40 cm | Approx. 29 °C | About 36 °C |
Dimming Thermostat and Safe Installation
Always use the Arcadia Deep Heat Projector with a suitable dimming thermostat. This gradually reduces or increases the output power and helps maintain a stable set temperature. A simple on/off thermostat is less suitable, as it constantly turns the projector fully on and off.
Install the projector in a heat-resistant ceramic E27 socket. When the lamp is suspended inside the terrarium, a suitable protective cage is required to prevent direct contact with the hot surface. Make sure your animal can never touch the projector or socket.
Measure the surface temperature of the basking zone with a non-contact infrared thermometer. Also use a digital thermometer with a sensor to monitor the air temperature on the warm and cool sides. This creates a usable thermal gradient in which the animal can choose its preferred temperature.

Manual
Place the projector above a suitable basking area and connect it to a dimming thermostat. Set the temperature carefully at first and allow the terrarium to stabilize completely before exposing your animal to the new heat source. Check both surface and air temperatures at multiple locations.
Maintain the minimum safe distance, use a ceramic E27 socket, and install a protective cage if there is a risk of contact. Check the setup daily and replace any damaged socket, cable, or projector immediately.
